Mrs. Marla Travis (Math)

Welcome to Mrs. Travis's Web Page

Hello. I am Marla Travis, and I teach 6th grade math. Fowler Elementary School District has been my home for the past sixteen years, but I have taught many different grade levels in a variety of educational settings.

I grew up in a small town in Washington State and attended a K-12 school.  It was there that I obtained my love of learning.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Whitworth University in Spokane, WA.  From there I attended Gonzaga University, also in Spokane, WA, and earned a Master of Education in Special Education degree.

We are into our Statistics Unit in math at this time.  We have learned how to ask statistical questions to create data.  Once we had the data we now know how to find the mean, median, mode and range of the set of data.  Mean absolute deviation was a new concept for the students along with measures of variation and box-and-whisker plots.  Some of the graphs we analyzed, interpreted and created were line plots, scatter plots and histograms.

Please have your student study their multiplication facts nightly.  Fluent multiplication skills are necessary for all of the concepts that we cover in 6th grade.
